Family therapy is a modality which hopefully leads to all family members feeling happier and relating more harmoniously. Some typical reasons folks may participate in family therapy are: an adolescent is engaging in acting-out behaviors; an extended family member (such as a sibling or in-law) is causing concern; the family is adjusting to becoming a step-family; someone has (or had) a drug or alcohol problem; an adult child cannot seem to grow up, (i.e. complete college or become gainfully employed); a family member is seriously ill; or family members need support and assistance in working through some painful history with one another.
